Hal practices in the international sector, focusing primarily on governmental relations, corporate affairs, media relations, litigation and business transactions, especially as it pertains to Latin America, Brazil and the Caribbean. Through his leadership abilities, he weaves together strategic alliances and forges effective in-market and regional teams, composed of local counsel and cross-departmental personnel of multinational clients, aimed at diffusing potential litigation and creating positive working relations with governments and other entities. Hal supervises and coordinates a network of top Latin American counsel and spokespersons, advises multinational clients on international as well as host country laws and customs, directs media training of multinational clients, and leads efforts in formulating and implementing business strategies beneficial to multinational clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Hal served as general counsel and senior vice president of HBO Latin America. As general counsel, he directed litigation, transactional, operational and corporate matters involving, among other things, the structuring of the corporate business, joint ventures and infringement of intellectual property rights. He also directed strategic management, governmental relations and agreements concerning satellite signal distribution, up-linking of signals, signal affiliate distribution, transmission equipment involving encoding, decoding and compression of signals, and talent and programming in Latin America, Brazil and the Caribbean.
