Shook Presents Webinar on Novel Food Addiction Litigation

Join four Shook partners as they present the webinar, “Junk Science, Not Junk Food: Crafting a Blueprint to Tackle the Rise of Novel Food Addiction Litigation,” Thursday, March 20, from 12:30– 2:00 p.m. ET.

A new wave of plaintiffs’ attorney-driven addiction litigation has made headlines. Yet, it’s not about vaping, opioids, online platforms or computer games. The litigation is targeted at food manufacturers. Plaintiffs are dubbing the litigation as “ultra-processed foods litigation” and accuse the food manufacturers of intentionally designing food products to be addictive while knowing these products were linked to various health issues.

Shook Partners Veronica Gromada, Jim Muehlberger, Patrick Oot, and Tom Sheehan will explore how plaintiffs are leveraging emerging evidence—often based on controversial or inconclusive work rooted in junk science—to challenge food manufacturers. The discussion will cover how to effectively assess the legal viability of these claims, the challenges faced by food manufacturers, and how key mass tort legal strategies can be employed in defending against ultra-processed food claims.

Please note that spaces for this webinar are limited, and registration does not guarantee a spot. If your spot is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email. CLE credit is available for the webinar.
