Behrens: 2024 Civil Justice Update
Civil justice reforms took a backseat to the election year of 2024, as lawmakers focused their efforts on their campaigns and other priorities. Meanwhile, the plaintiffs’ bar continued to push to increase awards in wrongful death cases, and a number of states updated their rules of evidence governing expert testimony to mirror or more closely align with 2023 amendments to the Federal Rule of Evidence 702, according to Shook Public Policy Practice Group Co-chair Mark Behrens. Behrens authored an article in the Federalist Society Review recapping the year's key civil justice issues and changes, including reforms at the federal and state level, impactful legislation and court rulings, and changes to the Federal Rules of Evidence that took effect in 2024.
