Shook Attorneys Present at Motor Vehicle Product Liability Conference
Four Shook attorneys will be speaking at the American Bar Association’s 2022 Motor Vehicle Product Liability Litigation Conference, April 6–8, at the Omni Scottsdale Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. The conference, now in its 30th year, is hosted by the ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, and Shook is a sponsor of the event.
The attorneys, who have considerable experience representing Shook clients in motor vehicle litigation matters, are speaking at the following sessions. All times are Mountain Standard Time.
April 7
Partner Holly Pauling Smith will serve as a moderator for, “What’s on the Horizon in Automotive Class Actions & Parallel Class Action Opt-Out Litigation,” 4:40 – 5:30 p.m. The panel will cover some of the recent developments in class actions and class action opt-out litigation and discuss what to expect in these areas in the near future.
April 8
Partner and Co-Chair of the Class Action and Appellate Litigation Practice Group Amir Nassihi will be a panelist on, “Best Practice in Settling Class Actions and Addressing Parallel Opt-Out Litigation,” 9:00 – 9:40 a.m. The panel will address key issues to consider and provide practical tips to accomplishing settlement goals in light of changing standards for settlement approval, and industries. Aggregated and pattern litigation will be discussed.
Partner Samantha “Sam” Burnett will serve as a moderator for, “A View From the Bench: Judicial Perspectives on Ethics and Civility in the Courtroom,” 9:40 – 10:30 a.m. The panel of federal and state court judges, moderated by representatives of both sides of the bar, will discuss practice in the courts and the civility and ethical issues commonly arising for litigants, and expectations of counsel.
Partner Joan Camagong will serve as a moderator for, “A View From the Bench II: Judicial Insights on Managing Complex Litigation and the Pandemic’s Lasting Impact,” 10:45 – 11:30 a.m. The panel of federal and state court judges, moderated by representatives of both sides of the bar, will discuss the pandemic’s lasting influence on courts, lessons learned, and best practices developed in managing complex litigation, and what to expect in the post-pandemic world.
Nassihi is also a program co-chair of the conference, and Burnett, who is co-chair of the ABA TIPS Products Liability Committee, is co-chair of the conference’s planning committee.
