Leadership Council for Legal Diversity Selects Three Shook Attorneys
The Leadership Council for Legal Diversity (LCLD) has selected Of Counsel Norma Bennett and Associates Kierra Powell and Ambria Mahomes to support their goal of advancing diversity in the legal profession.
The LCLD is an organization of more than 400 corporate members who pledge to create a truly diverse U.S. legal profession. Bennett has been designated an LCLD Fellow, and will participate in an intensive, yearlong professional development program that mentors legal diverse leaders. The program, specifically designed for lawyers with eight to 15 years of experience, connects high-potential attorneys with leading general counsel and managing partners and their peers for mentoring and career insights. Celebrating 11 years, the LCLD Fellows program has built a reputation for helping to launch participants into chief legal positions, with more than 50 alumni of the program having become general counsel, managing partners, judges or firm owners.
Associates Powell and Mahomes were selected as Pathfinders and will enter a seven-month professional program designed to train high-performing, early-career attorneys on foundational leadership and relationship-building. The program will provide Powell and Mahomes with the opportunity to learn from top leaders in the legal profession along with experts in the fields of learning and development and executive coaching.
Shook is also committed to advocating for a diverse generation of lawyers, and the firm nominated Bennett, Powell and Mahomes for the LCLD programs as part of its goal to encourage and advance top diverse legal talent within the firm and the community. The ultimate goal, for both Shook and LCLD, is to build a more equitable and diverse legal profession through mentorship and professional development.
