The Recorder Reports on New Shook Los Angeles Office
The Recorder interviewed three Shook partners who are opening the firm’s new Los Angeles office effective April 1, 2019. Partners Michael Mallow and Mark Campbell will co-lead Shook Los Angeles.
“The primary emphasis for us is that Shook does what we do. They are litigators with 90 percent of their attorneys are classified as litigators, trial lawyers,” Campbell told The Recorder.
As members of Shook’s Business Litigation and Class Action and Appellate practices, the attorneys bring decades of experience defending complex commercial litigation and consumer class actions to the firm’s roster of automotive, consumer products, cosmetics, energy, and food and beverage clients. Mallow previously co-led his prior firm’s Consumer Class Action Defense practice.
“We also knew the Shook folks because worked together with them on a number of different cases and a number of different projects,” Mallow explained to The Recorder. “We have similar styles, similar values. It was a really nice fit.”
Rachel Straus said Shook’s commitment to diversity attracted her to the firm. Shook’s Executive Council is composed of 45 percent women and diverse attorneys.
“It tells me not only is Shook recruiting and retaining women and diverse attorneys, but they are being promoted to key leadership positions that help share the culture of the firm,” Straus told The Recorder.
“We are excited to welcome Rachel, Mark and Michael to the firm and believe they have just the right chemistry and experience to expand our national platform to Los Angeles,” said Shook Chair Madeleine McDonough.
The Los Angeles location will be Shook’s third California office. Shook currently has offices in Orange County and San Francisco.
