Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s Legal Issues Group is an interdisciplinary practice group consisting of elite writers, appellate lawyers and veteran legal strategists.
Clients rely on Shook’s LIG to win in the courtroom and position their cases to win on appeal. LIG briefs and argues the most challenging issues, including punitive damages, constitutional issues and novel legal theories in jurisdictions across the country. Many of these cases are “bet the company” matters where the client needs to be prepared to pursue an appeal in the event of an adverse result at trial. Our LIG attorneys bring a wealth of experience garnered from all types of litigation, including mass torts, class actions, consolidated dockets and MDL proceedings. Our lawyers have represented clients in a wide variety of matters, including class actions, intellectual property, product liability, negligence and environmental and toxic torts.
We offer a deep bench of veteran litigators who have handled the “legal issues” role at hundreds of trials and have briefed and argued appeals throughout the United States. Our partners are supported by a core of hand-picked associates, including numerous former state and federal law clerks, who excel at writing and legal analysis. LIG’s services span the entire litigation timeline, beginning with helping our clients with pre-trial strategy and motion practice; continuing through trial to include trial support, appellate record preservation, and drafting and arguing jury instructions and trial motions; and culminating in post-trial motion practice and appeals.
Over the last several years, Shook’s Legal Issues Group has drafted over 5,000 motions and hundreds of sets of proposed jury instructions, and its lead partners have acted as legal strategy counsel at nearly 200 jury trials for a range of clients and matters, in state and federal courts in 17 states.
