John is an associate in the Class Action and Appellate Litigation Practice Group.

Before joining Shook, John served as a law clerk in the Supreme Court of Missouri to the Honorable W. Brent Powell, where he drafted and edited opinions and authored memoranda on whether to issue extraordinary writs or grant applications for transfer. He also attended oral arguments and analyzed appellate briefings for the judge. John worked on a variety of cases involving a wide array of complex legal issues for the Supreme Court, including employment law, property disputes, civil procedure, worker’s compensation, administrative law, criminal law and procedure, election law, insurance and bankruptcy.

John earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was on the editorial board of the Journal of Law & Politics. He was also a legal intern for the Missouri Attorney General’s office, primarily assisting the litigation section in defending the state from various claims, including the Eighth Amendment, ADA, Medicaid, employment discrimination, and tortious interference and negligent entrustment claims, and assisted in drafting several appellate briefs. In addition, John worked in the Legal Aid Justice Center of Charlottesville, where he helped develop case strategy and drafted court pleadings on a variety of consumer protection cases.

Before law school, John worked with non-profit organizations, including international student ministries, homeless shelters, youth groups and a transitional home, as well as volunteered abroad on multiple mission trips.
