David works within the firm’s Intellectual Property Prosecution and Counseling Practice group, with a focus in the mechanical arts. A registered patent attorney, David has extensive experience throughout a patent’s lifecycle (from initial drafting to appellate litigation) to inform his drafting of new patents and his counseling of clients on the best ways to protect their intellectual property.
Before joining Shook, David was an associate at several New York law firms, where in addition to prosecuting patents he represented domestic and international companies in patent litigations before federal courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC), counseled clients on pre-litigation, enforcement and licensing strategies and IP procurement, and conducted due diligence of IP assets, licenses and agreements.
David has also served in multiple in-house counsel roles, including general counsel for an innovative consumer products company, IP counsel for a global market research firm, and ethics and compliance (E&C) counsel for an international professional services firm. This wide spectrum of experiences gives David the ability to provide guidance from multiple legal, business and ethical perspectives to further enhance the value he can provide to clients.
