Legal Aid of Western Missouri Awards Shook Partner

Legal Aid of Western Missouri has named Shook Partner Dana Strueby as the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award. Strueby devotes a portion of her product liability practice to working for children and families by advocating for guardianships and adoption.

The Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award was created in partnership with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association to recognize attorneys who, through their participation in the Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP), have demonstrated exemplary commitment to pro bono services in the community.

Strueby helped her client gain legal guardianship of a child whose natural mother had contested the placement. Strueby went to trial and a guardianship was put into place for the minor, resulting in the client becoming the child’s legal guardian.

“I enjoy doing pro bono work because it has an immediate and direct impact on the lives of my clients,” said Strueby. “It is truly rewarding when we succeed in a case and are able to accomplish the client’s goals—and to do so without requiring them to pay for legal services.”

Legal Aid of Western Missouri will recognize Strueby at its annual “Party With A Purpose” event on October 17.
