Shook Team Secures Special Use Permit for Kaw Valley Project
Shook Partners Justin Johl and Jessie McKinney successfully represented Kaw Valley Companies, Inc. in its two-year proceeding to secure a special use permit for the construction of a sand quarry on 220 acres in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Several much larger companies applied for similar special use permits but withdrew their requests either due to opposition from the residents or the Leavenworth Board of Commissioners had rejected their requests for a special use permit.
Kaw Valley was able to convince the Leavenworth County Commission that the economic benefits from the project to the county outweighed the numerous concerns raised by the residents to the project. Securing the special use permit in this case has a significant effect on the future economic growth of the client and opens the area for future commercial/industrial businesses in the area.
Partner Sandy Hawley handled the acquisition of the property for the project as well as the purchase of an adjoining 180 acres of property.
The special use permit was granted on July 15, 2020.
