Cerner Prevails in Texas Patent Infringement Trial
U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas
Shook, Hardy & Bacon obtained a complete defense verdict for client Cerner Corporation following a two-week jury trial. RLIS, Inc. claimed that Cerner's Power Note electronic medical records system infringed two patents and sought $38.2 million in damages. The jury disagreed, finding that hospitals used the technology before RLIS claimed to have invented it. Missouri Lawyers Weekly later recognized the verdict as a significant win for Cerner and Shook.
RLIS Inc. v. Cerner Corp., No. 12-0209 (S.D. Tex. 2015).
