SHB Secures Defense Verdict for Guidant Corp.

SHB client Guidant Corp. won a complete defense verdict in a wrongful-death case involving a 14-month-old girl who was diagnosed before birth with third-degree heart block and later implanted with a Guidant pacemaker when she was 3 days old.

Medical records throughout the toddler’s life showed that the device functioned properly at all times. After a two-week trial, the jury returned a complete defense verdict on September 8, 2009.

The winning trial team was lead by SHB Partners Rob Adams and Matt Keenan, who were assisted by Of Counsel Sharon Williams and SHB Associates Gabe Egli and Scott Kaiser.
