Margaret is a registered patent agent with degrees in materials science and engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Before joining SHB, she worked as a graduate student research assistant in the Beckman Institute and as a teaching assistant in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UIUC. Her doctoral dissertation explored the use of DNA and biochemistry for self-assembly of nanomaterials, particularly photonic crystals. Margaret has experience with biomaterials, biochemistry, and polymers. She has coauthored papers and presented at numerous scientific conferences regarding her thesis research. At MIT, she performed research on high-temperature microreactors, fuel cells, and piezoelectrics.
